I DO HAVE A LOT OF GOALS

Have you ever set a goal and felt really excited about it, only to have your enthusiasm fade as time went by?

That’s because, for many goal oriented topics, the “half life of enthusiasm” is short.

The short half life of enthusiasm is something that you almost certainly run into as you market your business. It shows up clearly with your lead magnet. A potential subscriber starts off excited about your lead magnet, but their enthusiasm fades fast. That’s why it’s important to get in touch and stay in touch after they download your lead magnet.

It turns out, though, that a short half life of enthusiasm can affect more than just your prospects - it can affect you, too, as you go through the process of marketing your business (or working toward any other goal)

We've All Been There

It’s a common human experience that when you're in the dreaming stage of your goal, it’s very exciting.

And then...

The next thing that happens is you get into the nitty gritty of making the dream a reality. That’s not nearly as exciting, especially if you discover that you’re required to do something uncomfortable - like step out of your comfort zone to make progress.

To make all this even more challenging, it’s tempting to procrastinate on the hard stuff because you’re accountable only to yourself. You may find yourself letting things slide and next thing you know, you’ve put off an important goal till “later”.

To work around this motivational challenge and keep your goals alive, external accountability makes a big difference. It could be a mentor, a supportive friend, or a group with shared goals. Having someone to report your progress to works wonders.

External accountability helps you stay connected to the reason you started your project in the first place. From that frame of mind, working through the tough spots and making progress toward the future that you envision becomes way easier.

“Surround yourself with people who remind you more of your future than your past.” — Dan Sullivan

Give some thought to the tasks you’re working on now (or want to be) and remind yourself of the big dream that initially got you started.

Let’s get that fire burning again!
